Deepika Padukone Is Dropped From The Sequel To Prabhas-fronted Kalki 2898 AD

Hyderabad, September 18 - In a shocking turn of events, Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has been dropped from the sequel to Pan India superstar Prabhas-fronted Kalki 2898 AD. The actress was supposed to play a bigger role in the upcoming part, but she will now be replaced by another actress for the role.

Vyjayanthi Films took to social media to announce that Deepika Padukone will not be part of Kalki 2. The exact reason for her departure is not revealed yet, but by the looks of the studio's note, it seems the actress was not fully committed to the film, which forced the makers to drop her.

"This is to officially announce that @deepikapadukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of #Kalki2898AD. After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. And a film like @Kalki2898AD deserves that commitment and much more", the studio said in the statement.

Deepika played the role of SUM-80 alias Sumathi, pregnant lab subject of Project K and the prophesied mother of Kalki. SUM-80, alias Sumathi, is said to be one of the central roles in Kalki 2. Interestingly, Deepika was earlier backed out of Prabhas-fronted Spirit, later replaced by Triptii Dimri.

Released in June 2024, Kalki 2898 AD is an epic science-fiction film, directed by Nag Ashwin. Inspired by Hindu scriptures, the film serves as the first instalment in the planned Kalki Cinematic Universe. Set in a dystopian future in the year 2898 AD, the story follows a group on a mission to protect lab subject SUM-80's unborn child, believed to be Kalki.
