Mumbai, January 31 - The third instalment of Rani Mukerji-fronted cop action thriller franchise Mardaani has taken a better-than-expected start at the box office despite limited buzz and strong competition. The actress has once again proven her box office pull with Mardaani 3, which collected 4 crore net on its opening day, marking the biggest opening in the Mardaani franchise so far.

Despite facing stiff competition at the box office with Border 2, the film managed to attract audiences with its intense theme and franchise goodwill. With this opening, Mardaani 3 has surpassed its predecessors. Mardaani 2, which was a major success upon release, had opened at 3.80 crore net, while the original Mardaani had collected 3.40 crore net on Day 1.
