Rajkumar Hirani Confirms Working On Munna Bhai and 3 Idiots Sequels

Mumbai, February 11 – One of India's most celebrated filmmakers, Rajkumar Hirani, has finally given fans a reason to rejoice. The director has confirmed that he is actively working on sequel ideas for both Munna Bhai and 3 Idiots, two of the most iconic and beloved franchises in Hindi cinema. He confirms that both projects are in the early stages of writing.

Over the last few months, there have been rumours that Raju Hirani's next film will be the sequel to 3 Idiots after his Dadashaheb Phalke biopic was dropped due to some reasons. While the filmmaker didn't confirm his immediate next, in a recent interview, Hirani revealed that he has a couple of strong ideas for Munna Bhai 3 as well as a sequel to 3 Idiots.

Known for his perfectionist approach, the filmmaker stressed that he does not want to move forward unless the story lives up to the legacy of the original films. Hirani reportedly shared that he has been revisiting and refining concepts, but is waiting for the moment when the script feels completely right before announcing anything officially.

The Munna Bhai franchise, led by Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi, has been awaiting its third instalment for years. While Munna Bhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munna Bhai achieved cult status with their humour and social messaging, Hirani has admitted in the past that cracking a worthy third part has been challenging.

Equally exciting is the confirmation that Hirani is also developing an idea for a sequel to 3 Idiots. The 2009 blockbuster starring Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor Khan remains one of the highest-grossing and most influential films in Indian cinema. According to the director, the sequel idea emerged organically, and he is exploring how to take the story forward without diluting its emotional impact.
