Burnett began her career in entertainment in the 1950s, appearing in musicals on Broadway and on television. She rose to prominence in the 1960s, appearing in a number of variety shows and comedy specials before creating The Carol Burnett Show in 1967.

The show was a sketch comedy series that featured Burnett and a cast of regular performers, including Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, and Vicki Lawrence. It became one of the most successful and influential television shows of its time, winning numerous awards and garnering critical acclaim.
