George Kennedy (1925-2016) was an American actor who appeared in over 200 films and television shows. He was born in New York City and began his acting career in the 1950s, initially playing small roles in films such as "The Ten Commandments" (1956) and "Some Came Running" (1958).

Kennedy's breakout role came in 1963 when he played the character of Dragline in the classic film "Cool Hand Luke" opposite Paul Newman. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the film, which helped establish him as a leading character actor in Hollywood.

Kennedy went on to appear in many other popular films throughout his career, including "The Dirty Dozen" (1967), "Airport" (1970), "Earthquake" (1974), and "The Naked Gun" series (1988-1994). He also appeared in numerous television shows, including "The Blue Knight" (1975-1976) and "Dallas" (1988-1991).

In addition to his acting career, Kennedy was also a World War II veteran and served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945. He was also a licensed pilot and often flew his own planes to film sets.
