Gloria Grahame was an American actress born on November 28, 1923, in Los Angeles, California. She began her career as a stage actress in New York City, making her Broadway debut in 1944 in the play "Blithe Spirit." She quickly transitioned to film, making her first onscreen appearance in the 1944 film "Blonde Fever."

Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, Grahame appeared in numerous films, including "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946), "The Greatest Show on Earth" (1952), and "The Big Heat" (1953). She received critical acclaim for her role in the 1952 film "The Bad and the Beautiful," for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Grahame's personal life was often tumultuous. She was married four times, including to actor Stanley Clements and director Nicholas Ray. She also had a highly publicized affair with Ray's teenage son, which led to their divorce.

In the 1960s, Grahame's career began to decline, and she appeared in mostly B-movies and television roles. She made a brief comeback in the 1970s with her role in the film "The Loners" (1972) and her performance in the stage production of "The Glass Menagerie."
