Hunter is perhaps best known for her role as Dr. Zira, the sympathetic chimpanzee in the science fiction classic "Planet of the Apes" (1968) and its sequels. She also appeared in numerous other films, including "A Matter of Life and Death" (1946), "Deadline - U.S.A." (1952), and "Lilith" (1964).
