Melvyn Douglas (1901-1981) was an American actor who had a long and distinguished career in film and television. He was born in Macon, Georgia, and raised in a wealthy family in New York City.

Douglas began his acting career on the stage in the 1920s, and made his film debut in 1931 in "Tonight or Never." He went on to appear in numerous films throughout the 1930s, including "Ninotchka" (1939) and "Hud" (1963), for which he won his second Academy Award.

He appeared in a number of films with leading ladies such as Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, and Ingrid Bergman.
