Oscar Kightley, born on September 14, 1969, is a Samoan-New Zealander with a multifaceted career as an actor, television presenter, writer, journalist, director, and comedian. He gained notable fame for his role in and co-writing the successful 2006 film "Sione's Wedding." His career in the performing arts began when he debuted in his first full-length play, "Horizons," in 1991, which explored the Samoan experience in New Zealand. This play marked the inauguration of the Performing Arts Theatre and featured Kightley in a pivotal role. The success of "Horizons" led Kightley to co-found the Pacific Underground theatre company in Christchurch, an innovative venture aimed at representing Pacific Islander and palagi (non-Pacific Islander) narratives.

By November 1993, Kightley had co-authored "Fresh off the Boat" with David Small (writing as Francis Serra). This play, which was workshopped by Playmarket and directed by Nathaniel Lees, toured extensively in New Zealand and internationally, receiving acclaim including a Media Peace Award. It was eventually published in 2005. Kightley's contributions to the arts and representation of Pacific cultures have established him as a significant figure in New Zealand's cultural landscape.
