Richard Burton was a Welsh actor born on November 10, 1925, in Pontrhydyfen, Wales. He is considered one of the greatest actors of the 20th century, known for his commanding stage presence and intense performances on both stage and screen.

Burton began his acting career on the stage in the 1940s, and soon made his way to Hollywood, where he became a leading man in films such as "The Robe" and "My Cousin Rachel." However, he is perhaps best known for his work on stage, particularly his collaborations with the legendary director and producer, John Huston.

Burton's most famous role was that of Mark Antony in the 1963 film "Cleopatra," opposite Elizabeth Taylor, with whom he had a passionate and tumultuous relationship on and off-screen. He received seven Academy Award nominations over the course of his career, but never won the coveted statuette.

In addition to his acting, Burton was known for his distinctive voice and his work as a narrator and voice actor. He recorded several acclaimed audiobooks, including a popular recording of the poetry of Dylan Thomas.

Burton was married five times, including twice to Elizabeth Taylor. He struggled with alcoholism throughout his life, and died on August 5, 1984, at the age of 58, from a brain hemorrhage.

Despite his personal struggles, Richard Burton left a lasting legacy as one of the greatest actors of his generation, known for his powerful performances and commanding presence on stage and screen.
