MCU stands for Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is a series of superhero films produced by Marvel Studios, featuring characters and storylines from the Marvel Comics universe. The films in the MCU are interconnected, with characters and events from one film carrying over to others, creating a cohesive and interconnected universe.

The MCU began in 2008 with the release of Iron Man, which starred Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who becomes the armored superhero Iron Man. This was followed by films featuring other Marvel characters such as Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, and Spider-Man.

The films in the MCU are divided into several phases, with each phase featuring a different set of films and storylines. The first phase, known as "Phase One," included Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger. These films were followed by "Phase Two," which included Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Ant-Man. "Phase Three" started with Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, which is the last film of Phase Three, and the end of the storyline that began in Iron Man.

The films in the MCU have been highly successful, both commercially and critically, and have become a cultural phenomenon. They have also helped to establish the superhero genre as one of the most popular and lucrative in Hollywood. The MCU has expanded to other platforms such as television with shows such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher and WandaVision, and streaming services like Disney+.
