Top 10 Highest-Grossing Malayalam Films At The Worldwide Box Office

Kochi, September 16 - The Malayalam film industry scripted history last year by unclocking the 300 crores milestone and with three films out of the total 4 titles in the 200 crores club at the worldwide box office. Mohanlal's Empuraan had beaten Manjummal Boys to become the biggest Malayalam grosser, but the record didn't last long, losing to a superhero title.

Kalyani Priyadarshan's superhero film Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra was on a mission to complete the unfinished work, as it became the biggest Malayalam blockbuster of all time by beating the mighty Mohanlal, and eventually went on to become the first Malayalam film ever to cross 300 crores worldwide.

On the larger picture, the Malayalam film industry has delivered only 12 films in the 100 crores worldwide club, and nine of them have come in the last 2.5 years, and only four of them have gone over 200 crores worldwide, which shows the rise of the industry, which is often regarded as the content factory of Indian cinema.
